In the February issue of Nintendo Power magazine in America, there is an early look at Pokémon Black and White Version. The article doesn’t reveal anything we didn’t already know except for one small detail, the English name for the Live Caster.
The Live Caster is now known as the Xtransceiver as in “Cross Transceiver” in the English versions of Pokémon Black and White. This device is similar to the PokéGear in HeartGold and SoulSilver Version in which it allows you to chat with trainers, Professor Juniper and your mother at any time. The difference between the PokéGear and the Xtransceiver through is that you can actually see the faces of those you’re communicating with.
If you have a Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL or Nintendo 3DS, you will be able to use the Xtransceiver to chat with your friends. When communicating locally, you will be able to video chat with four friends at once however when communicating online through Wi-Fi, this is limited to just one other person.
The Xtransceiver works very well in-game; it’s great to see characters faces up close with their mouths moving and eyes blinking. When communicating with friends however, especially online, you will experience some lag which takes away from the experience. This is still an interesting idea though and since the Nintendo 3DS also features a built-in camera just like the DSi, hopefully GameFreak will continue to work on this and improve on it in the future.
